Guatemalan Congress approves Association Agreement between the U.K. and C. A.
On November 28th, 2019, the Congress of Guatemala approved the Association Agreement between the United Kingdom and Central America. The approval of this agreement will ensure the continuity of the commercial relations between both countries, once the United Kingdom leaves the European Union.
According to the Guatemalan Ministry of Economy, in 2018 Guatemala exported products and services to the United Kingdom for a value of US$ 77 million, while the United Kingdom exported products and services for a value of US$ 45 million to Guatemala.
The Association Agreement includes several additions that were not included in the agreement between Central America and the European Union. It will also maintain existing measures such as customs preferences for Central American products. The Agreement will enrich the existing commercial relations between the parties and will benefit many sectors of their economies, such as food industry, particularly agricultural products like coffee, avocado, lemon, banana and varied vegetables, and services industry.
